Guidelines to Finding a Balanced Weekly Routine That Won’t Bum You Out

Listen to the audio or read through — whichever way you like to learn best!

April 6, 2022

I’ve been experimenting with what I want each week to look like now for over a year.

Newsflash — it isn’t consistent and that’s okay. But I do have guidelines I use to help me plan out each week.

Mine looks a little something like this:

Mondays

Planning for the week ahead, slow mornings, self care, and Money Mondays (of course!) where I review my finances and share money/business tips in the Holy Fuck Pricing community.

Tuesdays + Wednesdays

Coaching sessions, design projects, checking in with clients, scrolling and posting on social media, and lots of backend business tasks.

Thursdays

Deadlines, design projects, and wrapping up my week.

Fridays

Feelings Fridays! I knock out any work in the morning and then take the afternoon off to feel my feelings. Sometimes that’s watching a Disney movie or This is Us (that damn show makes me cry everytime), sometimes it’s journaling and pulling tarot spreads for myself. The goal is for me to process my feelings so that they don’t come up randomly and surprise me (say right in the middle of a meeting). I’ll share more about this soon!

Saturdays

This is the day of Saturn, which is the planet for hard work and long-term goals. With my Capricorn stellium and sun (and Cap is ruled by Saturn), I tend to find this to be a very motivational “get shit done” type of day. Whether that’s cleaning my house, organizing, or doing a little back end work for my biz, I like to DO things. Then I make sure to take lots of time to chill and watch TV or read.

Sundays

My favorite day because it’s for adventures and chillin’. Nowhere to be and nothing to do. This is my day to spend how I want it. I tend to find I enjoy alone time on Sundays, which works out well because my partner is very introverted and equally enjoys his alone time.

But how did I get here?

I observed.

I journaled how I felt on different days. I talked it over with coaches, friends, and my partner. I paid attention to my feelings and, particularly, when I felt overly frustrated.

I started making changes.

First, it was removing Mondays from my scheduler links and availability. Monday is the day of the Moon, which feels perfect for connecting with yourself (i.e. self-care) and easing into the week.

I decided to remove Fridays.

So fucking freeing. Realizing that I get to make my schedule ties back into my core value of freedom. Realizing too that setting a deadline on a Friday made zero sense when my clients weren’t working over the weekend. It added so much pressure to end the week with a looming deadline, so I ditched that habit.

I started segmenting.

The next phase of my evolving schedule has been segmenting my coaching hours versus my design studio hours. Stay tuned for updates on this!

I keep my cycle in mind.

The other fun part of setting a weekly routine is, if you are a menstruating human, your cycle greatly impacts how you feel every day. I’m currently learning about this and will keep you posted as I integrate.

If you’re curious and want to do your own research, I recommend starting by reading The Period Queen by Lucy Peach (or check out her podcast for a briefer overview.

Are you ready to find your routine?

Start by observing. Notice when you feel most motivated — to do client work, to move your body, to chill, to plan, to focus on your business backend, to explore.

Document these in a journal, a google doc, or in your Notes app on your phone. Then sit and reflect on it. Loosely create your week, and check-in with yourself at the end of it.

  • What went well?
  • What do you want to continue?
  • What do you want to change?

Do this over the next month or two, and remember that it can ALWAYS evolve. Life happens, you pivot in your business, you adopt a puppy, you move into a new place — all of these things will affect your weekly routine.

Give yourself the space to let it evolve and change. By committing to noticing your patterns and creating a routine in the first place is an act of self-care and self-love. Lean into that for more balance as you ease into working less and making more.

If you want to talk through your observations and get support creating your weekly routine, book a Power Hour Session now.

1 spot available every Tuesday and Wednesday each week!

P.S. People on the newsletter received this in their inboxes earlier this year. If you want to get in on this and get a sprinkle of magic in YOUR inbox on a weekly-ish basis, join here!
