I’m a mom and creative who finds inspiration through color, community, and nature.
Why did I choose the name “The Colorful Jess”?
So many reasons. I’ve always felt like I like and use a lot of color — from my clothes to in my home to my designs and murals. I also love colorful language (can you tell?) and rainbows. Color to me represents freedom, and I share more about my journey figuring this out on the blog here.
I strongly believe in many things. At the top of that list is that checking in with yourself is key, everyone deserves to get paid, and confidence only requires a bit of practice.
My story: why did I become a pricing coach and speaker?
In June 2017, I founded my design and mural studio after being laid off from a design firm I had worked at post graduating college in 2014. I named it White Coffee Creative because I like my coffee with extra cream and sugar so it was memorable and personal.
I got to design and paint for 100+ clients, made $400K+ in total revenue (that’s the number before expenses and taxes y’all!), and started scaling and outsourcing work after hitting burnout and wanting more balance by 2020, right before the pandemic hit.
I found my style of bold, colorful, and playful. I created so much cool work that made an impact in so many client’s lives and businesses that I’m super proud of.
Through posting on Instagram, I started gaining momentum locally here in Baltimore City and beyond. I answered hundreds of questions from creatives all over the world and started doling out advice here and there. I found I enjoyed connecting with other creatives in this way.
But through these connections and hiring my own business coach to face my burnout (among other things), I began noticing just how prevalent the cracks in the industry were. Things like perfectionism, imposter syndrome, undercharging, and lack of boundaries (aka that work/life balance). I wanted to help change that.
I decided to branch out my company and add a coaching sphere under the name “The Colorful Jess”. From there, I created The Mural Business Course, started a blog, began speaking in communities and on podcasts, coached 30+ clients, co-hosted a podcast, made a few more courses and programs for badass creatives, and created the shop with downloads. I explored using astrology and human design professionally and personally, found more spiritual healing tools like meditation, journaling, and reiki, and began using tarot and oracle cards.
I found my passion in coaching centered on pricing specifically, which really stems from building confidence in what you offer. Money doesn’t scare me, and I love talking about it (plus my Pluto and Moon are in my second house of Scorpio, for you astrology nerds).
All of this factored into how I showed up as a coach for my audience and clients to help them be badass, confident, and well-paid creative business owners.
Time, countless learning lessons, and investing in myself has brought me a small chunk of wisdom that I’d like to pass on to you (or your community) as I help you be your best advocate in your business.
After having my first baby in May 2023, I decided to combine the two businesses into one to simplify my efforts. So now you’ll find both sides on this website, whether you’re looking for artwork or resources for your creative business.

Some fun personal things about me:
I’m a new mom as of May 2023. This phase of life is WILD but I’m enjoying the hell out of it. It’s fun, exhausting, and precious all at the same time. I’m learning to surrender to the process and be present in the moment so much more than I was.

My partner and I have adopted two border collie mutts together — named Rye and Blaze. We also have a black cat named Nala. Yes, of course they have an instagram, and you can check it out here. Our little family feels complete, for now!

I love the National Park system, and we take yearly trips to Shenandoah since it’s so close, but my hope is to hit all US parks by the time I’m 50 (fingers crossed!).

My favorite color changes often. I’ve been obsessed with greens and blues (most notably lime green), but lately I’ve gravitated towards a rich amber gold, and it’s been popping up in my clothes, my murals, and my branding.
